This is a piece of software you can download for free to your PC.  It is recommended this is used with older students rather than younger students.  Open Project is a professional project management tool where students can create a project, plan it out, add resources needed and set milestones in a gantt chart.

This type of tool is useful in any subject where professional project management techniques are needed.

Here is a link to download Open Project for free.  Below is a brief overview of how to use Open Project:

If you want your students to become more independent and plan and manage their own time then Google Calendar is a good place to begin looking.

They need a Google Account (they can set this up for free if they school has not already provided one).  They can then use their calendar to plan and manage their time.  They can set different colour coded categories to avoid confusion if they are using the calendar in a variety of projects/lessons and can also share calendars with their peers if they are working on a group project.

Google Calendar also includes a To Do list so they can keep track of things they need to do throughout a project/enquiry and tick them off as they complete them.

For those students with smart phones or mobile devices they can 'Sync' their calendar with their device so they always have the information they have put in there to hand.

Please see the tutorial before if you wish to find out more:
If you do not already have it why not see if your ICT coordinator will investigate setting up Google Apps for Education for your institution.
